Every coach says...HEAD UP! and 2 HANDS on your STICK!

Well thats what Brady Galinski is doing! and that is why he will keep putting the PUCK in the NET!(eye contact on the target)

Even better yet... with both his feet on the ice,if there happens to be a rebound, then his reaction time is double! Great preparation Brady! always thinking about... what could happen next!

We are the Champions of!

The Stratford Aces Tourney...CONGRATS!!! To the girls for working so hard and together as a team!!! and hats off to Jeff Campbell and his staff for always turning negatives into positives!

Keep up the hard work ladies...and I will see you at the next practise

Relationships in the shooting process

There are many key points and technical relationships when taking a slapshot! Whether you are stationary or in motion the relationship between your blade and the impact on the ice is crucial! as is the relationship between your blade and the impact on the puck and where it makes contact with your blade.(heel, middle,or toe). P.K. Subban, Montreals 2nd round choice, 43rd overall in 2007 and I analyze those relationships. He will make a few minor adjustments and work on them.
Good job P.K.!

Asking Questions

Montreal's 1st round choice,22nd overall, in 2007, Max Pacioretty is always trying to improve his game.
Max says," If you dont ask questions, then how do you get better or improve your game, meeting Tim and having him around is great for all of us to learn different techniques to help our overall development!"

Everyone pays Attention!

Not only are the players focused... check out Chuck Weber,(in the middle) coach of the Kelly Cup Champions Cinncinati Cyclones, East Coast League, Montreal Canadiens Affiliate.
He needs to reinforce all my techniques and terminologies to have another successful season.

Montreal Canadiens Development Camp

Attending my first Development camp with the Canadiens,July 2008, this is a great picture, turns out all 5 players focusing on my next drill made the current Hamilton Bulldogs roster. Left to right, David Desharnais,Ben Maxwell,Max Pacioretty,Ryan Russell and J.T. Wyman
Congrats Guys!

An Interview in Stockholm

On one of my recent visits to Sweden, I had the opportunity to work with many of Swedens Olympic hockey players... 2 of them being in the top 10 women players in the world!!! Maria Rooth and Danjela Rundqvist.

Read what one of them had to say...

AIK:s damer tar hjälp från NHL

AIK’s women’s team are excelling with help from NHL.

There are a lot more to do, that’s why AIK hired Tim Turk , who works as Skills instructor/ProShooters for Montreal Canadiens.

What he does is comparing his work with a surgeon. He checks every detail in order to get it correct. Some stuff you pick up and work with on practice and so, but in the play-offs you more likely think of wholeness instead of details. Then it’s the team that matters, so what he has been teaching us, we will work on later in the after season, says Maria Rooth.

When Tim Turk came to Solna, he first studied how everyone holds their stick in different situations.

He broke it down to tiny details, as supposed holding the stick depending on slapshot, wristshot, etc…

Och var skottet ska dras ifrån: And from where the shot will be drawn from.

- One thing was that you shouldn’t be pulling the stick behind your body in order to shot, instead of having it beside your body. If you pull your stick behind there’s a risk that you might miss the puck. If you pull it beside your body, you will more likely conserve more power. That’s a thing to think about, says Maria Rooth.

Och Tim Turk blev imponerad av AIK-tjejerna.

and Tim Turk was impressed by the girls.

- Considering how little time we had, I must say that they were pretty fast in learning and picking up things that I said. You could immediately se results. You also saw how confidence grew in the shoting phase/release phase.

Men allt gick inte in. Inte nu åtminstone.

Everything didn’t fall into places, not now, but will in due time.

- Everybody has their own style, you just don’t change it, but here we got the chance to work with shooting technique, puckhandling etc. some of it you absorb directly, but not all, cause there will be chaos in your brain if changing style before play-offs, says Maria Rooth.

FAKTA:

A shot can be excelled so much. Here is some details, signed Tim Turk , shooting instructor for Montreal Canadiens:

- it’s all about millimeters, so the grip of the stick is importante!!!

There is a lot to think about. For example where you meet the puck with your blade in a wristshot, angling of the stick in order to get the right aligmnent when the blade hits the ice. Your skates compared to your stick.

Women player often lack some of the men’s strength in their shot. But they compensete that with quickness and accuryse.

To get the most out of the shot you have to have proper grip alignment on your stick. On every shot, before the situation occurs. The grip moment should come from your backbone!

The most common error is that you load your stick behind your back,. And therefore losing time and power. Put the puck on the side instead and pull the shot from there. By that you use your own strength better and will more likely score more goals.

Off to Sweden March 2nd

I'm heading over to Sweden from March 2nd to 10th to work with the 16/20 year olds of AIK Hockey, based in Solna, just north of Stockholm. Formed in 1921, the club relocated to Solna in 1937, but still plays their matches in Stockholm - mainly at Hovet. Some more popular games are played at Globen, which has a larger capacity of 14,119. AIK are currently playing in Allsvenskan, the second highest league in Sweden.

PUT THE PUCK IN THE NET . . . IT'S WHAT YOU LIVE FOR!!!
